Shake a grid of letter dice and find as many words as you can before the 3-minute timer runs out. Drag across neighbouring letters (sideways, up, down or diagonally) to spell a word; longer words score more. When time is up you see every word you missed.

How to use the Word Grid Game
Choose a grid (4x4 or 5x5) and a time limit, then press Start game.
Drag across letters that touch each other, including diagonally, to spell a word. Release to submit it. You can also tap letters one by one and tap the last letter again, or type a word and press Enter.
Each letter die can only be used once per word. Words must be at least 3 letters long (4 on the 5x5 grid).
Score points for every new valid word: longer words are worth much more.
When the timer ends, check your score and the missed words. Hover or tap a missed word to see where it was hiding.

The Qu square counts as two letters, so QUIT is a 4-letter word worth 1 point even though it uses three squares.
Tips to find more words
Hunt for endings first. Look for S, ED, ER, ING and EST; one root word like PLAY can become PLAYS, PLAYED and PLAYER.
Find a strong core such as a vowel pair (EA, OU, AI) with consonants around it, then build outward in every direction.
Use the corners and edges. Letters on the edge have fewer neighbours and are easy to overlook.
Rotate the board. Seeing the letters from another angle makes new words jump out.
Don't chase only long words. Short words add up quickly in the first minute; go for long ones once the easy words are gone.
4x4 vs 5x5
The 4x4 grid is the classic game with 16 letter dice and a 3-letter minimum. The 5x5 grid has 25 dice, many more possible words and a 4-letter minimum, which rewards players who spot longer words. Both grids are rolled from fixed sets of six-sided letter dice, so common letters like E, T and S turn up more often than J, K, Q, X and Z, and every board is checked before play so it has plenty of words.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play the word grid game?
A grid of random letters is shown and you have a few minutes to find words. A word is made by joining letters that touch each other horizontally, vertically or diagonally, without using the same letter square twice in one word. Each new valid word scores points, and the game ends when the timer runs out.
How are words scored?
The game uses the traditional scoring: 3 or 4 letters = 1 point, 5 letters = 2 points, 6 letters = 3 points, 7 letters = 5 points and 8 or more letters = 11 points. The Qu die counts as two letters. Finding the same word twice scores nothing.
What is the minimum word length?
On the 4x4 grid words must have at least 3 letters. On the 5x5 grid the minimum is 4 letters, because the bigger board has many more short words. Words that are too short are rejected without penalty.
Which words are allowed?
Words are checked against a built-in English dictionary of about 100,000 words, including plurals and verb forms. Common abbreviations and offensive words are excluded. Very obscure dictionary words do count, which is why the missed list sometimes contains unusual words.
Why is there a Qu square?
Q is almost always followed by U in English, so like the classic dice game the Q face is printed as Qu. Selecting it adds both letters to your word, for example Q-U-I-T uses only three squares.
Is this the same as Boggle?
Boggle is a trademarked dice game by Hasbro. This is an independent free word grid game built on the same well-known idea of finding words in a grid of letter dice, with its own dictionary and design.
Does the game work offline and on phones?
Yes. After the page and its word list load, everything runs in your browser with no account or downloads. On a phone or tablet you can drag your finger across the letters or tap them one by one.
