Block Puzzle Game
Rotate and slide the falling blocks to build complete rows. Every full row disappears and scores points, and every 10 rows the blocks fall faster. Play with the keyboard or the on-screen buttons on your phone.
How to use the Block Puzzle Game
- Press Start game (or Enter). Pick a higher start level first if you want a faster game.
- Move and rotate the falling block with โ โ and โ (or Z to rotate the other way). On a phone, use the buttons under the board or tap the board to rotate.
- Drop it: hold โ to drop faster, or press Space to drop it instantly onto the ghost outline.
- Fill complete rows to clear them. Clearing 2, 3 or 4 rows at once scores far more than single rows.
- Use Hold (C or Shift) to save a block for later. The game ends when the stack reaches the top; press P to pause.
Scoring table
| Action | Points | Example at level 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Single (1 row) | 100 ร level | 300 |
| Double (2 rows) | 300 ร level | 900 |
| Triple (3 rows) | 500 ร level | 1,500 |
| Four rows at once | 800 ร level | 2,400 |
| Soft drop | 1 per row | Holding โ for 10 rows = 10 |
| Hard drop | 2 per row | Dropping 15 rows = 30 |
Four single clears at level 3 are worth 4 ร 300 = 1,200 points, while clearing the same four rows at once is worth 2,400. Building a clean stack with one empty column and waiting for the long straight piece is the classic way to rack up big scores.
Speed by level
The time a block takes to fall one row follows the formula (0.8 โ (level โ 1) ร 0.007)level โ 1 seconds, so the game starts relaxed and becomes very fast after level 10.
| Level | Time per row | Rows per second |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.00 s | 1.0 |
| 3 | 0.62 s | 1.6 |
| 5 | 0.36 s | 2.8 |
| 7 | 0.19 s | 5.3 |
| 10 | 0.064 s | 15.6 |
| 13 | 0.018 s | 55 |
When a block touches the stack you still have half a second to slide or rotate it before it locks in place. Each successful move or rotation resets that timer, up to 15 times per block.
Tips for higher scores
- Keep the stack flat. Bumpy surfaces leave holes that are hard to clear.
- Leave one column open at the side for the long straight block and clear four rows at once.
- Watch the next preview. Planning two or three blocks ahead is the biggest step up for most players.
- Use Hold for the awkward shapes, or save the straight block until your well is ready.
- Use hard drop once you are confident of the position: it is faster and worth double points.
Frequently asked questions
How does scoring work?
Clearing 1, 2, 3 or 4 rows at once scores 100, 300, 500 or 800 points, multiplied by the current level. Soft dropping with the down arrow adds 1 point per row and a hard drop with Space adds 2 points per row.
When does the level go up?
Every 10 cleared lines raise the level by one. At level 1 the blocks fall one row per second; by level 5 it is about 2.8 rows per second and by level 10 about 15 rows per second.
What is the ghost piece?
The faint outline at the bottom of the board shows exactly where the current block will land if you drop it. You can switch it off with the Ghost piece checkbox for an extra challenge.
How does Hold work?
Press C or Shift (or the Hold button) to put the current block aside and take the next one. Press it again later to swap the held block back in. You can hold once per block, so the held preview is greyed out until the current block lands.
Why won't my block rotate next to the wall?
When a rotation would push a block into a wall or other blocks, the game tries a few nearby positions (wall kicks) and uses the first one that fits. If none fit, the rotation is skipped. Move the block one column away and try again.
Does the page scroll when I press the arrow keys?
Not while a game is running: the arrow keys and Space are captured by the game. When the game is paused or over, the keys work normally again. On a phone, the board and buttons do not scroll or zoom when you tap them.
