Dino Runner Game
Pebble the baby dino is dashing across the desert. Jump over cacti and rocks, duck under buzzing beetles and keep running as the pace picks up.
Space / ↑ / W to jump (hold for higher) · ↓ / S to duck or drop fast · P or Esc to pause
How to use the Dino Runner Game
- Pick a starting speed: Chill for practice, Classic for the standard pace or Turbo for a fast start.
- Press Start game, Space or tap the board to start running.
- Jump over cacti and rocks with Space, the up arrow, W, a click or a tap. Hold the key a little longer for a higher jump.
- Duck under beetles flying at head height with the down arrow, S or the Duck button. Beetles flying high can simply be run under.
- Keep running: the score counts the distance you cover. Press P to pause and try to beat your best.
Speeds and scoring
| Mode | Start speed | Speed gain | Top speed | Points per second at start |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chill | 280 units/s | +4 units/s every second | 620 units/s | 7 |
| Classic | 340 units/s | +6 units/s every second | 780 units/s | 8.5 |
| Turbo | 430 units/s | +8 units/s every second | 900 units/s | 10.75 |
One point equals 40 units of distance, so points per second = speed ÷ 40. On Classic you hit top speed after (780 − 340) ÷ 6 ≈ 73 seconds, which is roughly the 900-point mark.
Jump physics
A jump launches the dino upward at 760 units/s against a gravity of 2,500 units/s². A quick tap therefore rises 760² ÷ (2 × 2,500) ≈ 115 units and stays in the air for 2 × 760 ÷ 2,500 ≈ 0.61 seconds. Holding the jump button lowers gravity to 1,450 units/s² for up to 0.14 seconds, which adds roughly 40 units of height. Pressing down in mid-air multiplies gravity by 3.2 for a fast drop.
| Obstacle | Height | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Small cactus | 36–46 units | Tap jump |
| Tall cactus or a group of 2–3 | 56–66 units, up to 90 units wide | Jump a little early, or hold for height |
| Rock | 22 units | Short hop |
| Low beetle | skims the ground | Jump |
| Head-height beetle | at the dino's head | Duck (or a held jump) |
| High beetle | above the dino | Keep running, don't jump |
Tips for long runs
- Jump later than you think. The dino clears about 207 units of ground per jump at Classic start speed, so jumping too early lands you on the cactus.
- Use the fast drop. Tap down right after clearing a cactus to land sooner and be ready for the next one.
- Watch the beetle's height before reacting; jumping into a high beetle is the most common surprise crash.
- On phones, use two thumbs: one on Jump and one on Duck.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play the dino runner game?
The dino runs automatically and the desert scrolls toward you. Jump over cacti, rocks and low beetles, duck under beetles flying at head height, and stay on the ground when a beetle flies high overhead. Touching any obstacle ends the run. Your score is the distance you covered.
What are the controls?
On a keyboard, Space, the up arrow or W jumps and the down arrow or S ducks. Hold the jump key for a higher jump, and press down while in the air to drop faster. With a mouse, click the board to jump. On a phone, tap the board or use the large Jump and Duck buttons. P or Esc pauses.
Is this the Chrome dinosaur game?
No. It is an original endless runner inspired by the same simple idea, with its own baby dino character, desert scenery and beetle obstacles, all drawn in code. It works in any modern browser, online or not, once the page has loaded.
How is the score calculated?
Every 40 units of distance is one point. At the Classic starting speed of 340 units per second that is 8.5 points per second, and the speed rises by 6 units per second every second up to a cap of 780, so points come faster the longer you survive.
When do beetles appear?
Beetles start flying in once you pass 250 points. They come in three heights: low ones must be jumped, head-height ones must be ducked (or cleared with a high jump), and high ones fly over you as long as you don't jump into them.
Are my scores saved?
Yes. The best score for each starting speed and your lifetime stats are saved in your browser's local storage on this device only. Use Reset stats to clear them.
