Tips for the funniest stories
Go unexpected. Specific, surprising words (a walrus, a kazoo, mashed potatoes) are funnier than ordinary ones.
Don't guess the story. The title gives a theme, but try not to match your words to it.
Use voices. Read the finished story with a dramatic voice, or let the read-aloud button do it.
Make it a lesson. For classrooms, ask students to name the part of speech before giving their word.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play a fill-in-the-blank story game?
One player asks the others for words by type, such as a noun, a verb or a color, without telling them the story. The words are written into the blanks. When every blank is filled, the story is read aloud, and the random words make it funny.
What is a noun, verb and adjective?
A noun is a person, place or thing (banana, teacher, park). A verb is an action word (jump, sing, sneeze). An adjective describes a noun (fluffy, enormous, purple). An adverb describes how something is done and often ends in -ly (loudly, slowly).
Is this game good for kids and classrooms?
Yes. All stories are family friendly, and the game is a fun way to practice parts of speech. Teachers can project it, ask the class for each word, then print the finished story.
What is party mode?
Party mode shows one word prompt at a time with Next and Back buttons. Pass the phone or tablet around the group so each person adds a word without seeing the others.
Can I print the story?
Yes. Press Print story and only the finished story is printed, with your words underlined. You can also copy it as plain text.
Why does the word sometimes appear with an instead of a?
The generator fixes the article automatically, so if you type a word that starts with a vowel, a becomes an (for example an enormous elephant).
