How to read a verse reference
A reference such as Genesis 37:3 means the book of Genesis, chapter 37, verse 3. A range like Luke 2:8-11 means verses 8 to 11 of chapter 2, and Exodus 7-12 (no colon) means whole chapters 7 to 12. Books with a number in front, such as 1 Samuel or 2 Kings, are read "First Samuel" and "Second Kings".
Tips for Bible quiz nights and classes
- Play as teams: show the quiz on a TV or projector, let teams discuss, and have one person tap the answer.
- Study one book at a time: after reading a book in your group, play just that book on Mixed difficulty to see what stuck.
- Look up the misses: the review at the end lists every reference, which makes a ready-made reading list.
- Mix ages: younger players can use Kids mode on a tablet while adults play Hard on another device.
- Watch for common myths: several questions check details people often get wrong, such as the forbidden fruit (never called an apple) and the number of wise men (never stated).
Frequently asked questions
How many questions are in this Bible trivia quiz?
There are 166 questions: 31 easy, 59 medium and 76 hard. They cover 40 books, from Genesis and Exodus to the Gospels, Acts, the letters and Revelation, plus a few general questions about the Bible itself.
Which Bible translation are the questions based on?
The facts are the same in all major translations. Where a question quotes a verse, it uses the wording of the King James Version, which is in the public domain. Verse numbers follow the usual English numbering; a few books, such as Jonah, are numbered slightly differently in Hebrew Bibles.
Is it suitable for kids and Sunday school?
Yes. Kids mode uses only easy questions about well-known stories such as Noah's ark, David and Goliath, Jonah and the birth of Jesus. It turns off the timer, makes the answer buttons bigger and adds a button that reads the question aloud.
Why does each answer show a verse reference?
So you can check the answer yourself. The reference, such as 1 Samuel 17:49-50, points to the chapter and verses where the fact appears. It makes the quiz useful for Bible study groups and classes, not just for fun.
How is the score calculated?
Each correct answer earns 100 points. If you turn on the timer, you also get a speed bonus of up to 50 points depending on how much time is left. Wrong answers and timeouts earn 0 points. Your best result is stored for each book and difficulty.
Will I get the same questions every time?
The quiz remembers the last 120 questions you were asked (only in your browser) and picks unseen ones first, so repeats are rare until you have worked through a book or section.
Does the quiz cover the Catholic deuterocanonical books?
No. The questions come from the 66 books shared by Protestant Bibles, which are also in Catholic and Orthodox Bibles, so everyone can play. The general questions mention that Catholic Bibles contain 73 books.
