Just how big is a billion?
Big numbers are hard to feel. A billion is a thousand millions, and the gap between a millionaire and a billionaire is far larger than most people picture. This table puts each fortune option in the game into time, using the simple idea of spending one dollar every second, day and night.

Ideas for playing
Try to spend it all exactly. Getting the balance to $0 is surprisingly hard; finish off the last few dollars with coffees and pizzas.
Only everyday items. Filter to Everyday and Tech and see how many thousands of phones or sneakers a billion buys.
Half for good causes. Give at least 50% to scholarships, trees, shelters and hospitals, then spend the rest on fun.
Classroom challenge. Give everyone $1 million and $1 billion in turn and compare how differently the two budgets feel. It is a quick way to teach place value and large numbers.
Compare receipts. Download your receipt image and compare it with friends: who bought the most items, and who left the least money behind?
Frequently asked questions
How long would it take to spend a billion dollars?
If you spent $1 every second without stopping, a billion dollars would last about 31.7 years (1,000,000,000 seconds ÷ 86,400 seconds per day ÷ 365.25 days). At $1 million a day it would still take about 2.7 years.
How much is a billion?
In the US and modern English, one billion is 1,000,000,000: a thousand millions, or a 1 followed by nine zeros. A trillion is a thousand billions.
Are the prices in the game real?
They are rough, rounded US price levels from 2026 chosen to be realistic for fun, such as about $48,000 for a new family car or $420,000 for a typical house. Real prices vary a lot by model, location and year, so treat them as illustrations, not quotes.
Can I use a different amount than a billion?
Yes. Pick $1 million, $100 million, $10 billion or $100 billion, or type any custom amount. Shorthand works too: 500k, 25m, 2.5b or 1t.
Can I go into debt in the game?
No. The Buy button is disabled when an item costs more than you have left, and if you type a larger quantity than you can afford, the game buys the maximum you can pay for.
How do I share my result?
Click Download receipt image to save a PNG receipt of everything you bought, or Copy receipt to paste a text version into a chat or post.
Is my game saved?
Your fortune and purchases are stored only in your browser's local storage, so they are still there when you return on the same device. Click Start over to clear the cart.
