Frequently asked questions
How do I type Spanish accents on a keyboard?
On Windows, hold Alt and type the code on the numeric keypad: á 0225, é 0233, í 0237, ó 0243, ú 0250, ñ 0241, ü 0252, ¿ 0191, ¡ 0161. On a Mac, press Option+E then the vowel for á é í ó ú, Option+N then N for ñ, and Option+U then U for ü. Or simply click the letters above and copy your text.
How do I type French accents?
Click the French tab and insert é è ê ë à â ç ô œ and others. On a Mac: Option+E for acute (é), Option+` for grave (è), Option+I for circumflex (ê), Option+U for diaeresis (ë), Option+C for ç and Option+Q for œ. On Windows use Alt codes such as é 0233, è 0232, ç 0231.
Why don't Alt codes work on my laptop?
Alt codes need the numeric keypad with Num Lock on; the number keys above the letters do not work. Many laptops have no keypad. In that case use this accent keyboard, the Windows touch keyboard (long-press a letter), or switch to the US-International layout.
What is smart accent typing?
It mimics the US-International keyboard: an accent key waits for the next letter. ' then e gives é, ` then a gives à, ^ then o gives ô, " then u gives ü, ~ then n gives ñ, and ' then c gives ç. Press the symbol then Space to type the symbol itself. It is off by default so apostrophes work normally.
How do I type a capital accented letter?
Turn on ⇧ Uppercase or hold Shift while clicking. German ß becomes the capital ẞ, and in Turkish i becomes İ while ı becomes I, following Turkish spelling rules.
How do I add Vietnamese tone marks?
Type or click the vowel (a, ă, â, e, ê, i, o, ô, ơ, u, ư or y), then click a tone: sắc, huyền, hỏi, ngã or nặng. The tone is added to the letter right before the cursor, and clicking another tone replaces it.
Is my text saved anywhere?
Only in your own browser. The tool runs locally and never uploads what you type; your draft is kept in local storage so it survives a reload, and Clear deletes it.
