About the Amharic keyboard
Amharic is written with the Ge’ez (Ethiopic) script, an abugida of over 200 characters called fidel. Each consonant has seven forms, one for each vowel, so typing works by combining a consonant key with a vowel key.
Phonetic (SERA): Type a consonant, then a vowel: s → ስ, then e → ሰ, a → ሳ, u → ሱ, i → ሲ, E → ሴ, o → ሶ. Shift gives ጥ ጭ ጵ ጽ and other ejectives.

Tips for typing Amharic
The sixth form (ብ, ስ) is used for consonants without a vowel or with the short ə sound.
Several letters sound the same (ሀ ሐ ኀ for h, ሰ ሠ for s, አ ዐ for a); use the quick buttons for the less common ones.
Word separator ፡ is traditional but most modern texts use spaces.
Ethiopic numbers (፩ ፪ ፫) exist but Arabic digits are standard today.
