OwO: wide eyes. Surprise or curiosity, often “what’s this?”.
>w<: squeezed-shut eyes. Excited, flustered or embarrassed.
^w^: a big happy smile.
:3: a cat-like smug or cute smile, one of the oldest of these emoticons.
(◕ᴗ◕✿): a kaomoji (Japanese-style face read upright) with a flower for extra sweetness.
Tips for using uwu text
Keep it to short messages. A single uwu line is funny; a whole paragraph at Maximum is hard to read.
Use Light or Mild when you want people to read it easily, and Strong or Maximum for jokes.
Uwu speak is playful and can come across as teasing, so save it for friends and casual chats rather than school or work.
Frequently asked questions
What does UwU mean?
UwU is an emoticon of a cute, happy face: the two u's are closed, smiling eyes and the w is a small cat-like mouth. It is used online to show affection, happiness or playful cuteness. OwO is a related face that shows surprise or curiosity.
What is uwu speak?
Uwu speak (also called owo speak or uwuifying) is a playful internet style that imitates baby talk: r and l sounds become w, some n sounds get a little y (nyo, nya), words are stuttered and sentences end with kaomoji faces. It grew out of anime and gaming fan communities and became a meme in the late 2010s.
What rules does this UwU translator use?
Every level replaces r and l with w (keeping capitals). From Mild upward it also turns na/ne/ni/no/nu into nya/nye/nyi/nyo/nyu and love into wuv; from Medium it changes th at the start of common words into d (the → da). Stutters, faces and actions are added at random, with the chance rising as you raise the intensity.
Why do I get different results each time I shuffle?
Stutters, faces and actions are placed using a random seed. The same seed always gives the same output while you edit, so the text does not jump around; clicking Shuffle picks a new seed for a different mix.
Is the result readable?
At Light and Mild it stays easy to read because only sounds change. At Strong and Maximum the stutters, faces and actions make it much busier, which is the point for jokes but can be hard to read in long messages.
Does the translator send my text anywhere?
No. All the rules run in JavaScript in your browser, so the text never leaves your device.
