About the Persian keyboard
Persian (Farsi) is written right to left with a 32-letter Perso-Arabic alphabet: the 28 Arabic letters plus پ, چ, ژ and گ. As in Arabic, letters join and short vowels are usually not written, so Finglish typing writes only the consonants and long vowels.
Standard (ISIRI 9147): Standard Persian layout ISIRI 9147, as on Windows and macOS “Persian - Standard”. Digits give Persian numerals; Shift gives harakat and alternative forms; Shift+B is the half-space (ZWNJ).
Finglish typing: Type Persian in Latin letters (Finglish): salaam → سلام. Short vowels a/e/o are not written inside words; use aa for ا.
Persian letters and where to find them
All 53 Persian (Perso-Arabic) characters on the main layout, with the key that types them and how to type them phonetically. “Shift+” means hold Shift (or press the on-screen ⇧ key first).

Tips for typing Persian
Use the half-space for prefixes and plurals: میروم, نمیدانم, درختها.
Ezafe: after a word ending in ه, type ی or ٔ (Shift+N) for the ezafe sound: خانهٔ من.
Guillemets « » are the standard Persian quotation marks (Shift+K and Shift+L).
Tanvin and harakat are on Shift (Q–I) when you need them for clarity.
Frequently asked questions
How do I type Persian without a Persian keyboard?
Either use the Standard tab, where your keys produce the letters printed on Iranian keyboards, or switch to Finglish typing and write words in Latin letters: salaam → سلام, ketaab → کتاب, irAn → ایران (use aa or A for the long ā).
What is the half-space and how do I type it?
The half-space (zero-width non-joiner, ZWNJ) separates parts of a word without a visible space, as in میخواهم and کتابها. On the standard layout it is Shift+B (also Shift+Space on many systems), and there is a ZWNJ quick button.
Why are there two kinds of ی and ک?
Persian uses ی (Farsi yeh) and ک (keheh), while Arabic uses ي and ك. They look similar but are different characters, which affects search and sorting. This keyboard types the Persian forms by default; the Arabic ones are on Shift+D and Shift+Z.
What is ISIRI 9147?
ISIRI 9147 is the Iranian national standard for the Persian keyboard layout, adopted in 2007. It is the “Persian - Standard” layout in Windows and macOS and fixes several problems of the older Windows Farsi layout.
How do I type Persian numbers?
The number row gives Persian digits ۱۲۳۴۵۶۷۸۹۰ directly. Your physical keyboard digits are also converted.
