How to use the Number Tracing Worksheet Generator
Choose the numbers: a ready range like 0 to 10 or 1 to 20, or Custom list to type your own.
Pick a layout: Rows puts several numbers on each page; One page per number adds a big number, counting pictures, the word and many practice rows.
Set the size and style: number size, dotted or dashed tracing, and which counting pictures to show.
Toggle the extras: number words, solid example, start dots, fading rows and the name and date line.
Press Download PDF or Print worksheet, and print at 100% (actual size).
How to write each number
The dotted numbers follow common school handwriting strokes. Most numbers start at the top; the green dot on the worksheet marks the exact starting point.

Tips for number tracing practice
Start big. Use Extra large or Large numbers for 3 and 4 year olds; move to Medium and Small as control improves.
Trace, then write alone. The One page per number layout ends with an empty row so children can write the number without dots.
Count out loud. Have the child touch and count each picture before tracing the number, then trace the word while saying it.
Watch for reversals. Writing 2, 3, 5, 7 or 9 backwards is common up to about age 7; the start dots and a solid example help.
Reuse sheets. Slip a page into a clear sleeve and trace with a dry-erase marker.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a number tracing worksheet?
Choose a range of numbers (or type your own list), pick a layout and size, and press Download PDF. The preview shows each page exactly as it will print, and you can step through the pages with Prev and Next.
At what age should children trace numbers?
Many children start tracing numbers between ages 3 and 5, usually starting with 0 to 10 and the largest size, then moving to 11 to 20 and smaller sizes in kindergarten. Children differ a lot, so short, playful sessions work better than long ones.
What are the green dots?
Each green dot marks where a stroke starts, so children learn to begin a number at the top and in the right place. This builds correct formation habits, for example starting 5 with the downstroke and 8 at the top. You can switch them off.
Why are there pictures next to each number?
The counting pictures link the written numeral with the quantity it stands for. Children can count the stars or apples, point to each one, and color them in when you choose the outline style. Pictures are drawn for numbers up to 20; zero shows the word none.
Can I make worksheets for numbers above 20?
Yes. Choose Custom list and type any whole numbers from 0 to 999, for example 21-30 or 50, 75, 100. Number words like twenty-one and one hundred are included; counting pictures are only drawn up to 20.
Which layout should I choose?
Rows is compact: each number gets a tracing row, its word and a picture box, so 0 to 10 fits on two or three pages. One page per number is better for focused practice: a big dotted number, a counting box, the word and several rows of the number to trace.
Why do the numbers print the wrong size?
Set the print dialog to Actual size or 100% rather than Fit to page, and make sure the paper setting (US Letter or A4) matches the paper in your printer.
