Auto-plan: fill the month from a posting schedule
Set how many posts per week each platform gets. The planner spreads them over the week, rotates post types and suggests a content theme for each post. Existing posts in this month are kept.

How to use the Social Media Content Calendar

- Click Download PDF for a printable calendar and checklist, or Download CSV for a spreadsheet.
Post formats by platform
The auto-planner rotates through formats that each platform is built around. Use this as a quick reference when you change a post type by hand.
| Platform | Formats the planner uses | Planning tip |
|---|---|---|
| Short video, carousel, image, story | Mix reach-focused short videos with save-worthy carousels; use stories for day-to-day updates. | |
| TikTok | Short video | Plan a recurring series so viewers know what to expect each week. |
| Image, short video, text post, poll | Questions and polls invite comments from existing followers. | |
| YouTube | Long video, short video | Long videos need the most lead time: schedule filming and editing days too. |
| Text post, carousel, article, poll | Weekday mornings suit professional audiences; share lessons and behind-the-scenes stories. | |
| X (Twitter) / Threads | Text post, image, poll | Short, frequent posts; good for quick tips and joining conversations. |
| Image | Pins are discovered for months, so plan seasonal content well ahead. | |
| Blog / Newsletter | Article, email | Make the long piece first, then cut it into several social posts for the same week. |
How to build a content plan that lasts
- Set 3 to 5 content pillars, the recurring themes your audience cares about (for example tips, products, behind the scenes, customers, community).
- Choose a realistic frequency. It is better to post three times a week for a year than every day for two weeks.
- Add key dates first: launches, sales, events and holidays relevant to your audience, then fill the gaps with pillar content.
- Batch the work. Write captions in one session and shoot photos or videos in another; set the status to Draft as you go.
- Repurpose. One blog article can become a carousel, a short video, a newsletter section and a few text posts.
- Review monthly. Compare what performed best and move more of next month's slots to those formats and topics.
Frequently asked questions
What is a social media content calendar?
It is a schedule that shows what you will post, on which platform, in what format and on which date. Planning a month ahead keeps posting consistent, balances content types and makes it easier to prepare images and videos in batches.
How often should I post on each platform?
There is no single correct number. Consistency matters more than volume, so pick a frequency you can keep up for months. Many small businesses start with a few posts a week on their main platform and fewer on the others, then adjust using their own analytics.
What should I put in each calendar entry?
At minimum the date, platform, post type and a topic or caption idea. A posting time and a status (idea, draft, scheduled, published) help track progress. This tool stores all of those and includes them in the CSV and PDF.
How does the auto-planner choose days and times?
Posts are spread across the week, favoring weekdays (for example Monday, Wednesday and Friday for three posts a week). Each platform gets a typical starting time and rotates through formats that suit it, such as short videos and carousels for Instagram. Treat the times as a starting point and use your audience insights to fine-tune them.
Can I print the calendar?
Yes. Download PDF creates a landscape US Letter or A4 file with the month grid on the first page and an optional post list with checkboxes on the following pages, ready to print or share.
Can I import the plan into a spreadsheet or scheduler?
Download CSV gives one row per post with date, weekday, time, platform, post type, topic and status. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers, and many scheduling tools accept CSV uploads after you match the columns.
Is my calendar saved?
Your posts are saved in this browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back on the same device. Nothing is sent to a server. Download a CSV as a backup or to move the plan to another device.
