Strategies that make the facts stick
Use the commutative property. 7 × 3 is the same as 3 × 7, so a child who knows the 3s already knows half of the 7s. Leave "Mix factor order" on so both forms appear.
Learn anchor facts first. × 2 is doubling, × 5 is half of × 10, × 9 is × 10 minus the number (9 × 7 = 70 − 7 = 63), and × 4 is double-double.
Square numbers (3 × 3, 4 × 4, … 12 × 12) are easy to remember and help with neighbors: 7 × 8 = 7 × 7 + 7 = 56.
Short, frequent practice beats long sessions. A daily 3-minute sheet of 30 mixed facts, scored with the answer key, builds speed and shows progress over a few weeks.
For multi-digit problems write each partial product on its own line: 47 × 23 = 47 × 3 + 47 × 20 = 141 + 940 = 1,081.
Counting the facts
The 0–12 tables contain 13 × 13 = 169 facts, but because a × b = b × a only 91 of them are different. Take away the 0s and 1s, which follow simple rules, and just 66 distinct facts from 2 × 2 to 12 × 12 are left to memorize, and only 36 for the 2–9 tables.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a multiplication worksheet for one times table?
Press Clear, tick only the table you want (for example 7), keep the factor range at 0 to 12 and choose Times table facts. The sheet then contains only 7 × n problems, mixed or in order, and the title changes to "7 Times Table Practice".
Does the worksheet include an answer key?
Yes. With "Answer key page" ticked, the PDF and the printout end with a copy of the worksheet with every answer filled in, in orange, so checking takes seconds.
What is a missing factor worksheet?
Each problem shows a product with one factor hidden, such as 7 × __ = 56. Finding the missing factor practices the link between multiplication and division, which is why it is used in grade 3 after the basic facts.
Which multi-digit options are there?
The top number can have 2 to 5 digits and the bottom number 1 to 3 digits, so you can make 2-digit × 1-digit sheets for grade 4 or 3-digit × 2-digit long multiplication for grade 5. Problems are set out in columns with room for the partial products.
How many problems fit on one page?
In horizontal fact layout 72 problems fit on the first US Letter page (18 rows of 4), the vertical column layout fits 36, and multi-digit problems fewer because they need working space. If you ask for more, extra pages are added automatically.
Can I get the same worksheet again?
Yes. Each sheet has a worksheet code shown in the corner. Type that code back into the Worksheet code box with the same settings and the identical problems are recreated, which is handy for retests or for printing a second copy later.
Is it free and private?
Yes. The worksheets and the PDF are created entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded and no sign-up is needed.
