How to use the Place Card Maker
Enter the guest names, one per line. To add a table number or other detail, write it after a bar: Anna Lee | Table 4.
Choose the card type: Tent cards stand up on their own after folding; flat cards lie on the plate or napkin.
Pick a size, theme, font and colour. The preview shows the exact printed page.
Press Download place cards PDF and print it at 100% (Actual size) on card stock.
Cut along the dashed lines and fold tent cards along the dotted line so the name faces outward.

Tips for printing and folding place cards
Test first: print one page on plain paper, cut a card out and fold it to check the size and the look before using card stock.
Feed card stock flat: thick paper jams less through the rear or manual feed slot. Set the printer's paper type to card or heavy paper.
Score before folding: run the back of a butter knife or a dry ballpoint pen along the dotted fold line against a ruler; the fold will be crisp and the card will stand straight.
Cut with a trimmer: a paper trimmer or a craft knife and metal ruler gives cleaner edges than scissors. Cut slightly inside the dashed line so it does not show.
Order the list by table: sorting names by table number before printing makes it much faster to set the tables.
Place card etiquette
Use the name the guest is known by at the event: first and last name at formal dinners and weddings, or first names only at relaxed family meals. For couples, give each person their own card. Place the card above the plate, on the folded napkin or on the charger, and write titles (Dr., Mr., Ms.) only at formal events where they are used throughout. Escort cards, by contrast, are kept at the entrance and tell guests which table to go to: add the table number as the second line and they work as escort cards too.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a standard place card?
The most common folded (tent) place card is 3.5 × 2 inches when folded, which is 3.5 × 4 inches flat before folding. Flat place cards are often 3.5 × 2 or 4 × 2.5 inches. In metric, 90 × 50 mm and 100 × 70 mm are common.
How many place cards fit on one page?
Four standard 3.5 × 2 in tent cards (3.5 × 4 in before folding) fit on a Letter or A4 page, and ten flat cards of the same size fit on one page. The tool picks portrait or landscape automatically to fit as many as possible and shows the count under the preview.
Why is the name upside down on the top half?
That half becomes the back of the folded tent card. When you fold along the dotted line, the card stands like a little roof and both sides read correctly, so guests on either side of the table can see the name. Untick 'Print the name on both sides' to leave the back blank.
What paper should I print place cards on?
Use matte or smooth card stock of about 65-110 lb cover (176-300 gsm) that your printer can feed, usually through the rear or manual tray. Print a test page on plain paper first to check the layout, and print at 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page.
How do I add table numbers or meal choices?
Put them after a vertical bar on the guest's line, for example 'Daniel Kim | Table 6' or 'Mia Lopez | Vegetarian'. To put the same second line on every card, such as the couple's names and date, use the 'Second line for every card' field; a detail written after the bar takes priority.
Can I use accented names?
Yes. Accented Latin letters such as é, ñ, ü, ø and ß print correctly. The PDF uses standard fonts that do not include non-Latin scripts (Chinese, Cyrillic, Arabic and so on), so those characters appear as ? and a warning is shown.
Are the guest names uploaded?
No. The preview and the PDF are created entirely in your browser. Your list is saved only in your own browser so it is still there next time.
