Tips for packing and shipping
Pick from the slip. Turn on tick boxes, print the slip first and tick each line as you put the item in the box.
Use Packed by / Checked by. A second person checking the box against the slip catches most picking errors.
Keep a copy. Print 2 copies: one goes in the box, one stays with your order records.
Leave prices off for gifts. Packing slips from this tool never show prices, so they are safe to send to gift recipients.
Save paper. Half-page slips (2 per sheet) fit most small-business orders and fit neatly in a packing-list envelope.
Frequently asked questions
Is this packing slip generator free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no watermark, and the PDF is created in your browser. Customer names and addresses are never uploaded.
What is a packing slip?
A packing slip (also called a packing list or delivery note) is a document placed inside or attached to a package that lists what was shipped. The customer uses it to check the contents, and warehouses use it to pick and pack the order. Unlike an invoice, it normally shows quantities but not prices.
What is the difference between a packing slip and an invoice?
An invoice requests payment and shows prices, tax and the amount due. A packing slip confirms what is in the box. Because it has no prices, a packing slip is suitable for gift orders and for orders shipped directly to a third party.
How do I show back-ordered items?
Enter the quantity ordered, then type the quantity actually shipped. If fewer were shipped, the difference appears in the Back-order column and in the totals, with a note that it will ship separately. Leave Shipped blank when everything was sent.
Can I print two packing slips on one page?
Yes. Choose 2 (half page, cut line) under Slips per page. Each slip takes half of a Letter or A4 sheet with a dashed cut line, which suits half-sheet label paper and saves paper. Long orders continue on the next half automatically.
Should the packing slip go inside or outside the box?
Usually inside the box on top of the items, or outside in a clear adhesive packing-list envelope so it can be read without opening the package. Make a second copy for your records with the Copies option.
