How to use the Meal Planner Printable
Set the week: pick the first day of the week and whether it starts on Monday or Sunday.
Choose the columns you need: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, a grocery list and a notes box.
Type your meals into the grid, or click Fill example week to start from a sample plan.
Add groceries one per line in the grocery list column.
Download the PDF to print or save, or download the blank planner to fill in by hand.
A simple weekly meal planning routine
Check the week first. Look at your calendar: late workdays, sports nights and evenings out decide which days need a 15-minute meal, leftovers or nothing at all.
Pick dinners, then build around them. Dinners take the most effort and ingredients. Choose 4 to 5, then plan one leftover night and one flexible night (eat out, freezer meal or "clean out the fridge").
Reuse ingredients. If Monday's dinner uses half a bag of spinach, put spinach in Wednesday's omelet. Overlapping ingredients cut waste and shorten the grocery list.
Repeat breakfasts and lunches. Two or three rotating breakfasts and lunches are much easier to shop for than seven different ones.
Write the grocery list from the plan, then check the fridge and pantry and cross off what you already have.
Prep once. Use the notes box for the prep list: wash greens, cook a pot of grains, portion snacks, marinate meat.
How long food keeps in the fridge
When you plan leftovers and shopping days, keep these refrigerator limits in mind. They come from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service cold storage guidance for a fridge at 40 °F (4 °C) or below.

Tips for a planner you will actually use
Keep cells short. A few words per meal ("Tacos + slaw") are easier to read on the fridge than full recipes. Note the page or link of the recipe in the notes box.
Print a blank copy for the whole family. Let everyone write a request on it during the week, then type the final plan here.
Grocery list by store section. Type items in the order you walk the store: produce, bakery, meat, dairy, frozen, pantry. The list prints in the order you typed it.
Landscape gives wider cells for longer meal names; portrait fits a binder or clipboard better.
Frequently asked questions
Is this meal planner printable free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The PDF is created in your browser and your meals and grocery list stay on your device.
Can I print a blank meal planner?
Yes. Click Download blank PDF to get the same layout with empty cells, faint writing lines and an empty grocery list, so you can fill it in by hand and stick it on the fridge. The week dates are left blank too.
Will my plan be saved if I close the page?
Your entries are saved in this browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back on the same device and browser. Clearing site data removes them. Download the PDF to keep a permanent copy.
What happens if I write more than fits in a cell?
The PDF wraps text across lines within each cell. If a meal description is too long for the cell, it is shortened with an ellipsis, so keep entries brief, for example "Chicken stir-fry + rice", and put recipe details in the notes box.
Should my week start on Sunday or Monday?
Use whatever matches your shopping and calendar. Many families shop and meal prep on the weekend, so a Sunday start lets the grocery trip and prep day open the plan; a Monday start matches the ISO work week used in most of the world.
How do I plan leftovers safely?
Cook once and eat twice: plan a leftover lunch for the day after a big dinner. The USDA advises eating refrigerated cooked leftovers within 3 to 4 days, or freezing them sooner, so place leftover meals within that window.
Can I use it for a diet or a family with different needs?
Yes. Rename the sheet, untick columns you do not need and use the cells for portions, macros or who is cooking. For calorie or macro targets, work them out first with a nutrition calculator, then plan meals to match.
