Writing better bullet points
One idea per bullet. If a bullet needs "and" twice, try clause mode or split it by hand.
Lead with the key word. Removing openers like "In addition," puts the important part first.
Keep the grammar parallel. Start every bullet the same way, for example with a verb ("Submit…", "Review…").
Use numbers only for order. Numbered lists suit steps and rankings; symbols suit unordered points; checkboxes suit to-do lists.
Aim for 3–7 bullets per group. Long lists are easier to scan when broken into short groups with headings.
Frequently asked questions
How does the converter split sentences?
It ends a sentence at a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark followed by a space, but skips common abbreviations (Mr., Dr., e.g., i.e., etc., a.m., p.m., U.S., month names), single-letter initials like J. R. and decimal numbers like 3.5. Lines that already start with a bullet or number are kept as separate items.
What does splitting by clause do?
Clause mode further breaks long sentences at semicolons and before coordinating words such as 'and', 'but', 'so', 'while' and 'because' when they follow a comma, so 'The venue holds 120 people, so registration will close early' becomes two bullets. A split only happens when both parts have at least three words, which avoids fragments.
Which filler words are removed?
Openers that add little to a bullet point, such as In addition, Furthermore, Moreover, Also, Basically, Actually, First of all, Finally, In conclusion, Overall, Of course and phrases like 'It is important to note that' or 'Please note that'. Single-word openers are removed only when followed by a comma, so 'In addition to the new hours…' is kept intact.
Does it summarize my text?
No. It restructures your own sentences into a list and lightly trims openers, without rewriting or dropping content, so nothing is invented. To shorten further, edit the bullets afterwards or use clause mode for shorter points.
Should bullet points end with a period?
Style guides differ. A common rule is to omit periods when bullets are fragments and use them when each bullet is a full sentence; whatever you choose, be consistent. Untick 'Remove ending periods' to keep them.
Can I paste the list into Word or Google Docs?
Yes. Copy the plain text, or use Copy as HTML for web editors and email builders, or Copy as Markdown for apps like Notion, Obsidian, GitHub and Slack, which turn it into a real formatted list.
