How to use the Extract Phone Numbers
- Paste your text or open a file. The example shows several formats.
- Choose the default country for numbers written without a + or 00 prefix.
- Pick the output format: E.164 for CRMs and SMS tools, spaced international for reading, digits only or as written.
- Filter to only plausible numbers if your text contains many other digits, and decide whether to remove duplicates.
- Copy the list or download a CSV with the original text, country, extension and line number.

How normalization to E.164 works
- Find candidates: runs of digits with spaces, dots, dashes, slashes or parentheses, optionally starting with + or an international access code (00, or 011 from the US and Canada).
- Drop look-alikes: dates, times, IP addresses, prices, year ranges and short numbers are skipped.
- Add the country: numbers with + or 00 already include their country calling code. Other numbers get the calling code of the default country after the national trunk prefix is removed (0 in most of Europe, Asia and Africa, 1 in North America, 8 in Russia, 06 in Hungary). Italy keeps its leading 0 because it is part of the number.
- Check: the calling code is matched to a country and the national number length is compared with the usual range for that country. E.164 numbers are never longer than 15 digits.
The (0) that UK, German and Swiss numbers sometimes show after the country code, as in +44 (0)20, is a reminder to dial 0 within the country and is dropped automatically. Use the cleaned list with tools like the WhatsApp link generator, which also expects numbers with the country code.
Frequently asked questions
What is the E.164 phone number format?
E.164 is the international numbering standard of the ITU. A number in E.164 format starts with +, followed by the country calling code and the national number with no spaces, dashes or trunk prefix, and is at most 15 digits long, for example +14155552671 or +442079460958. Most CRMs, SMS gateways and messaging apps expect this format.
How does the tool handle numbers without a country code?
Numbers that do not start with + or an international prefix such as 00 or 011 are treated as local numbers of the default country. The national trunk prefix is removed, for example the leading 0 in 020 7946 0958 for the UK or the leading 1 in 1-415-555-2671 for the US, and the country calling code is added.
Does it validate phone numbers?
It checks that the number has a plausible length for its country (for about 60 countries) and that the total is no more than 15 digits. It cannot tell whether a number is actually in service or who owns it. Numbers marked Check have an unusual length or an unknown calling code.
Why were some numbers in my text not extracted?
To avoid false matches the tool ignores dates (2024-05-01), times, IP addresses, prices with decimals and digit strings shorter than 7 digits. Long numbers written without any separators are only accepted when they have 10 to 12 digits or start with +. Choose Show all candidates to see more.
Can I extract phone numbers from a CSV or Excel file?
Yes. Open a .csv or .txt file, or copy the cells from Excel or Google Sheets and paste them. Each number keeps the line it was found on in the CSV export.
Are the numbers uploaded anywhere?
No. Extraction and formatting run entirely in your browser, so lists of contacts stay on your device.
