Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a text file to a Word document?
Open the .txt file with the Open .txt file button or drop it on the text box, choose your font and page settings and click Create Word document. The tool builds a .docx file in your browser and downloads it. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice like any other document.
Are paragraphs and line breaks kept?
Yes. A blank line starts a new paragraph, and a single line break inside a paragraph becomes a line break in Word, so addresses, poems and lists keep their shape. If your text has one paragraph per line, set Paragraphs to Every line instead.
What is the difference between .doc and .docx?
DOCX is the standard Word format since Word 2007, an open XML format that every modern word processor opens. The older binary .doc format is not needed today; Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Apple Pages all read .docx files.
Which page size should I use?
Use Letter (8.5 × 11 in) in the United States and Canada and A4 (210 × 297 mm) almost everywhere else. Legal (8.5 × 14 in) is used for some US legal documents and A5 for booklets and notes.
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. The document is generated by JavaScript in your browser using the open-source docx library. Your text and files never leave your device.
Can I make headings?
Tick Turn # lines into headings, then start a line with # for a main heading or ## for a subheading, as in Markdown. You can also add a document title, which is placed at the top in bold.
