Tips
- Email newsletters and Word documents are full of nested tables and inline styles; the text still comes out clean, with table cells separated by tabs.
- Want Markdown instead? If you need to keep headings, bold text and links as formatting, use the HTML to Markdown converter.
- Getting one long line? Make sure Keep line breaks is on. Turn it off when you need a single line of text, for example for a meta description.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove HTML tags from text?
Paste the HTML into the input box. The tool parses it like a browser would, throws away every tag, comment, script and style, and shows only the visible text on the right. Click Copy text to use the result anywhere.
Will the line breaks and paragraphs be kept?
Yes, with Keep line breaks turned on. Block elements such as paragraphs, headings, divs and list items start on a new line, <br> becomes a line break, and paragraphs are separated by a blank line. Turn it off to get one continuous line of text.
What does decode HTML entities mean?
HTML uses codes called entities for some characters, for example & for &, < for < and for a non-breaking space. Decoding turns them back into the real characters. Turn it off if you want to keep the codes exactly as written.
Is it safe to paste HTML with scripts?
Yes. The HTML is read with the browser's DOMParser, which creates an inert document: scripts do not run and images or other resources are not loaded. Script and style content is removed from the output by default.
Is a regular expression good enough to strip HTML?
A simple pattern like <[^>]*> works for basic snippets, but it fails on comments, scripts, attributes that contain >, and entities, and it loses all line breaks. Parsing the HTML properly, as this tool does, gives reliable results.
Is my HTML uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser, and files you open are read locally. Nothing is sent to a server.
