What makes generated handwriting look real

  • Variation: real writing is never perfectly even. With Wobble above 0, every word gets a slightly different size (up to ±4%), a small rotation and a little up-or-down bounce, and word gaps vary by ±15%.
  • Ink: blue and pencil look most natural; the ink opacity varies a little from word to word like a real pen.
  • Paper: lines and margins matter. Notebook paper has blue rules and a red margin; a legal pad is yellow with a double red margin.
  • Line fit: keep the size a bit smaller than the line spacing (for example size 32 on 44 spacing) so tall letters don't touch the line above.

Page size and resolution

Pages are drawn at 150 DPI: an A4 page is 1240 × 1754 pixels and a US Letter page 1275 × 1650 pixels. The number of lines per page is ⌊(page height − top space − bottom space) ÷ line spacing⌋ + 1; with the default spacing of 44 px, an A4 page holds 36 lines of writing. Longer text simply continues on the next page.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded?

No. The pages are drawn on a canvas in your browser, and the PNG and PDF are created on your device. Only the handwriting font files are loaded from Google Fonts.

Why does it look like a normal cursive font?

If the handwriting fonts cannot be downloaded (for example offline or behind a strict firewall), the tool falls back to your system's cursive font and shows a note. Reload the page when you are online to get the real handwriting fonts.

How do I make it look more realistic?

Raise the Wobble slider a little so words tilt and bounce slightly, use blue or pencil ink, and choose the ruled notebook paper. Fonts like Homemade Apple, Reenie Beanie and Shadows Into Light look the most hand-made.

Can I use it for school assignments?

It is meant for creative projects, mock-ups, greeting cards, journaling templates and learning about typography. If an assignment must be handwritten, check your teacher's rules: submitting generated handwriting as your own may break them.

How long can the text be?

There is no fixed limit. The text flows onto as many pages as needed; the PDF includes them all, and you can page through the preview.

Which paper size is used?

Choose A4 or US Letter. Pages are rendered at 150 DPI, which prints sharply at normal size and keeps file sizes reasonable.
