Paste a paragraph, article or transcript and get every sentence on its own line. Abbreviations like Dr. and e.g., decimals like 3.5 and quoted speech are handled, and you can number the sentences before you copy or download them.

How to use the Sentence Splitter
Paste your text into the left box. A sample is loaded so you can see how it works.
Choose numbering if you want 1. 2. 3., brackets or bullets in front of each sentence.
Decide how line breaks count: leave Line breaks end a sentence on for headings and lists, or turn it off to join text that was wrapped mid-sentence.
Press Split into sentences. The result also updates as you type.
Check the stats and the sentence length table to spot sentences over 25 words.
Copy or download the result as text, or as a CSV with one row per sentence.
Splitting rules at a glance
Sentence boundaries look simple until you meet abbreviations, numbers and dialogue. This splitter applies the rules below, in order, to every period, question mark, exclamation mark and ellipsis it finds.
Text

Why
It costs $4.99 today.
No (inside)
No space after the inner period, so 4.99 is a number

"Stop!" she said.

An ellipsis followed by a capital letter ends the sentence
1. Preheat the oven.

A number at the start of a line is a list marker
Why one sentence per line is useful
Editing: very long sentences stand out at once. Readability guides often suggest an average of 15 to 20 words per sentence, and the stats panel flags every sentence over 25 words.
Translation: computer-assisted translation tools and machine translation work sentence by sentence, so pre-split text aligns cleanly with its translation.
Subtitles and scripts: a sentence per line is a quick first draft for captions, teleprompter scripts and text-to-speech reading.
Language learning and data work: numbered sentences are easy to quote, quiz or paste into a spreadsheet as one row each.
Tips for the cleanest result
Text copied from a PDF often has a line break at the end of every visual line. Turn off Line breaks end a sentence so those lines are joined back together; blank lines between paragraphs still count as breaks.
For lists, headings and poems, keep that option on so each line stays separate even without a period.
Rule-based splitting cannot read meaning. A sentence that starts with a lowercase word (for example a brand like iPhone) is joined to the previous one, so check the output where that happens.
Turn on Remove repeated sentences to drop duplicates from transcripts or scraped text; the first occurrence is kept.
Frequently asked questions
How does the sentence splitter decide where a sentence ends?
A sentence ends at a period, question mark, exclamation mark or ellipsis that is followed by a space and a word that does not start with a lowercase letter. Closing quotes and brackets right after the punctuation stay with the sentence. A paragraph break always ends a sentence.
Will it split after abbreviations like Dr. or e.g.?
No. Titles and Latin abbreviations such as Mr., Mrs., Dr., Prof., St., e.g., i.e., vs. and cf. never end a sentence. Abbreviations that can end a sentence, such as etc., Inc. and a.m., are split only when a capitalised word follows, and month names, No. and Vol. are not split before a number.
What about decimals, prices and website addresses?
A period with no space after it is never treated as a sentence end, so 3.14, $12.50, version 2.0, example.com and file.txt all stay intact.
Why did two sentences stay on one line?
Sentences that start with a lowercase letter, or that end with an initial or abbreviation followed by a name, look like a single sentence to any rule-based splitter. Add a line break where you want a split and keep Line breaks end a sentence turned on.
Can I use it to prepare text for translation or subtitles?
Yes. One sentence per line is the usual input format for translation memory tools, text-to-speech scripts and subtitle drafting. Use the CSV download to get a numbered table you can open in a spreadsheet.
Is there a limit on text length?
There is no fixed limit. Long books split in a moment because everything runs in your browser. The table shows the first 500 sentences; the text and CSV downloads always contain all of them.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The splitting happens entirely in your browser and your text is never sent to a server.
