How to use the Text to Table Converter
Paste your text with one row per line, or open a .txt, .csv or .tsv file. Data copied from a spreadsheet arrives tab separated.
Check the separator. Auto-detect usually picks the right one; choose Tab, Comma, Pipe, Spaces or Custom if it doesn't.
Set the options: header row, trimming, quoted cells, empty lines and right-aligned numbers.
Pick an output tab: Table for a formatted copy, Markdown, Plain text (choose the border style) or HTML.
Press Copy and paste into your document, chat or README, or Download the result as a file.

Simple word lists; wrap multi-word values in quotes: "New York" 85

Which output format should I copy?
Table (rich copy) for anything with a formatting toolbar: Word, Google Docs, Pages, PowerPoint, Outlook, Gmail, Notion or OneNote. The clipboard also carries a tab-separated version, so pasting into Excel or Sheets fills one cell per value.
Markdown for GitHub and GitLab READMEs, issues and pull requests, wikis, Obsidian, Reddit and many documentation sites.
Plain text wherever formatting is stripped: code comments, terminal output, plain-text email, commit messages or chat apps inside a code block. Box-drawing lines look neater; the ASCII grid is safest for very old systems.
HTML when you are editing a web page or a CMS that accepts raw HTML. Add your own CSS class to style it.
Tips for clean results
If a column looks shifted, a row probably has an extra or missing separator. Shaded cells in the preview mark padded blanks.
Untick First row is a header when your data has no titles; Markdown will then get an empty header row.
Turn on Merge repeated separators for text that uses several tabs or commas between values to line them up.
Numbers such as 1,240, $59.99, -3.5 and 12% are recognized, and columns containing only numbers are right-aligned so the digits line up.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert text to a table in Word or Google Docs?
Paste your text here, check that the preview shows the right columns, stay on the Table tab and press Copy table. The clipboard then holds a real HTML table, so pasting into Word, Google Docs, Outlook or Gmail creates a table with borders and a bold header row instead of loose text.
Which separators can it detect?
Auto-detect looks at up to 60 lines and picks the character that appears the same number of times on most of them: tab, pipe, semicolon or comma. If none fits, it splits on runs of two or more spaces, and finally on any space. You can always override it, including with a custom multi-character separator.
What happens when rows have different numbers of cells?
The table uses the widest row as the column count and pads shorter rows with blank cells. The tool tells you how many cells were added and shades them in the preview so you can spot rows with a missing separator.
Can a cell contain a comma or a line break?
Yes, if the cell is wrapped in double quotes as in CSV: "Austin, TX" stays one cell, and a doubled quote ("") inside it becomes a single quote mark. Untick Respect quoted cells if your text uses quote marks as ordinary characters.
How is the plain-text table aligned?
Each column is padded to its longest value so the borders line up in any monospaced font, such as code blocks, terminals, emails sent as plain text or fixed-width chat messages. Wide characters like Chinese, Japanese, Korean and most emoji count as two columns.
Does the Markdown output work on GitHub?
Yes. It produces a GitHub-flavored Markdown table with a header row and a separator line; pipe characters inside cells are escaped as \| and line breaks become <br>. Numeric columns get a ---: separator so they render right-aligned. If you turn off the header option, the header row is left blank because Markdown tables always need one.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing, formatting and copying happen in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste is sent to a server or stored, apart from your option choices, which are remembered on your device.
