Tips for word games and puzzles
Know the end, not the start? Put the known final letters in Ends with and the word length in Min and Max. Add every letter you have ruled out to Exclude letters.
Chasing points: sort by Highest word score. Endings with X, Z, Q or J (for example -ax, -iz, -ique) raise a word's base score quickly.
Use the letters you hold: type your tiles in Must include letters to see which words with your ending use them.
Hooks: short endings such as -s, -ed, -er and -y let you extend a word that is already on the board.
Rhymes for writing: endings like -ight, -ay and -ow list spelling rhymes. Check the sound, because the same spelling can be pronounced differently (bow, tow, cow).

Frequently asked questions
How do I find 5 letter words that end in a certain letter?
Type the letter or letters in Ends with and set both Min length and Max length to 5. For example, ending E with length 5 lists words such as house, place and voice. Add Exclude letters to rule out letters you already know are not in the answer.
What do the small numbers next to each word mean?
They are the word's score using the standard English letter tile values from popular crossword-style board games: 1 point for common letters such as E, A and S, up to 8 for J and X and 10 for Q and Z. Bonus squares on a board are not included. Untick Show letter points to hide them.
How is Must include letters different from Starts with?
Must include letters can appear anywhere in the word and in any order. Typing a letter twice, such as ee, requires two of that letter. Starts with is fixed at the very beginning of the word.
Can I use a wildcard for an unknown letter?
Yes. Use ? (or an underscore) for any single letter. Ends with ?ck finds words ending in ack, eck, ick, ock and uck, and Starts with b? plus Ends with t matches words like beat, bolt and bright.
Does this list words that rhyme?
Words that share an ending often rhyme, such as night, bright and slight, but spelling and sound don't always match: cough and though both end in ough and do not rhyme. For true rhymes use the Rhyme Finder.
Which word list is used?
About 109,000 English words in American spelling, including plurals and verb forms. Proper nouns, abbreviations and hyphenated words are not included, and it is not an official tournament word list, so a game may accept or reject some words.
Is my search private?
Yes. The word list is downloaded once and every search runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
