How the renumbering works
When most units start with a number followed by a period or parenthesis (such as 1. or 4)), the tool rewrites those numbers after reversing so they count up from the smallest original number. Indentation, the punctuation style and the space after the number are kept. A list that started at 5 keeps starting at 5. Turn the option off when the numbers carry meaning, such as years, rankings or page numbers, and should travel with their line.
Tips
Exported chat logs, bank statements and server logs are usually oldest-first. Reverse the lines to read the latest entries first.
Reversing twice returns the original order, so you can always undo with Use as input and a second click.
Trailing spaces at the end of lines are removed in every mode; leading spaces (indentation) are kept unless Trim spaces is on.
Need a random order instead? Use the shuffle option in Sort Lines Alphabetically.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reverse the order of lines?
Paste the text, keep the Lines tab selected and press Reverse order. The last line moves to the top and the first line moves to the bottom. The characters inside each line are not changed.
What is the difference between reversing lines and reversing paragraphs?
Lines mode flips every single line. Paragraphs mode treats each block separated by a blank line as one unit, so a block of three lines stays in its original internal order while the blocks themselves swap places. Tick Also reverse lines inside each paragraph to flip both.
What happens to a numbered list?
With Renumber numbered lists on, a list like 1. 2. 3. that is reversed still reads 1. 2. 3. from the top, with the items in reverse order. Turn the option off to keep each item's original number, which shows a countdown such as 3. 2. 1.
Can I reverse a comma-separated list?
Yes. Choose List items and the comma separator. a, b, c becomes c, b, a and the spacing after each comma is kept. If you paste several lines, each line is reversed on its own, which is handy for CSV rows.
Is reversing the same as sorting Z to A?
No. Reversing only flips the current order, whatever it is, so a chronological log becomes newest-first. Sorting Z to A reorders by the letters themselves. Use the Sort Lines Alphabetically tool if you need alphabetical order.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The reversal runs entirely in your browser, so private lists and logs never leave your device.
