Common reasons to strip numbers
Cleaning copied lists: remove the numbering from ordered lists, ranked lists or exported spreadsheets so the items can be re-sorted or reused.
Preparing text for analysis: word clouds, keyword counts and readability checks often work better when page numbers, years and IDs are gone.
Anonymising: replace phone numbers, order IDs, amounts and dates with a placeholder before sharing an email or document as an example.
Fixing OCR or PDF text: text copied from PDFs often includes page numbers, footnote markers and line numbers mixed into sentences.
Language practice: turn numbers into blanks (replace with ____) so learners can write them out as words.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove all numbers from text?
Paste the text and untick the three Keep options. Every digit is removed, along with attached signs such as $ and % if that option is on. Leave Clean leftover spaces ticked so you don't end up with double spaces or stray commas.
What counts as a number?
Any run of digits, including thousands separators and decimals (1,249.99), times (9:30), ranges (25-30), dimensions (1920x1080), simple fractions (1/2) and phone-style numbers (555-0199). Each of these is removed as one piece.
Will it break words like MP3 or COVID-19?
Not with the default settings. Keep numbers joined to letters leaves digits that touch a letter, such as MP3, 4K, 3D, B2B or 5kg, and hyphenated names like COVID-19 or F-16. Untick it to strip those digits too: MP3 becomes MP and COVID-19 becomes COVID. The letters always stay.
Can I remove numbering from a list?
Yes. When a line starts with a number such as '1.', '2)' or '3 -', the number and the punctuation after it are removed, so '1. Preheat the oven' becomes 'Preheat the oven'. Bullet characters that were not attached to a number are left alone.
Can I replace numbers instead of deleting them?
Choose a replacement such as #, X, [number] or your own text. This is handy for anonymising documents, for example hiding account numbers, prices or dates before sharing a text.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you paste is sent or stored. Only your option choices are remembered on this device.
