How to use the Passport Photo Maker
Take a photo facing the camera in front of a plain light wall, with even light, neutral expression and both eyes open. Hold the camera at eye level about 1 to 1.5 m away.
Choose the country and document. The frame and guides change to that country's size and head height rules.
Add your photo and line it up: drag to move, scroll, pinch or use the Zoom slider so the top of the hair touches the top line and the chin sits inside the green band. Use Straighten if your head is tilted.
Whiten the background if the wall is not white enough, and raise the tolerance until the wall is clean but your hair and shoulders stay untouched.
Download the single photo for online applications, or the 4×6 print sheet and print it at a photo kiosk or online print service at actual size (no borders, no scaling).

Tips for a photo that gets accepted
Light: face a window or use two soft lights so there are no shadows on your face or behind you. Avoid the camera flash.
Distance: stand about 50 cm in front of the wall to avoid a shadow, and have someone take the photo from 1 to 1.5 m away at eye level. Selfies distort the face and are often rejected.
Pose: look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open. Keep your hair away from your eyes and face.
Clothing: wear normal everyday clothes in a color that contrasts with the background. No uniforms, hats or headphones; religious head coverings are usually allowed if your full face is visible.
Quality: use the camera's full resolution, do not apply beauty filters, and make sure the image is sharp.
How the print sheet works
Photo labs print a 4×6 inch photo at 300 DPI, which is 1800 × 1200 pixels. This tool places as many passport photos as fit at their exact physical size (for example six 2×2 in photos or eight 35×45 mm photos) and adds thin cut lines. Because the photo size is fixed in inches or millimeters, the print must not be scaled: choose borderless, actual size printing.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a US passport photo?
A US passport photo is 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). The head, measured from the bottom of the chin to the top of the hair, must be between 1 and 1 3/8 inches (25 to 35 mm), and the background must be plain white or off-white. For online applications a digital photo of at least 600 × 600 pixels is used, which is what this tool produces at 300 DPI.
What is a 35 × 45 mm passport photo?
35 × 45 mm is the most common passport photo size worldwide, used by the UK, the EU and Schengen countries, India, Australia, Japan, Singapore and many others. The required head height differs: for example 29 to 34 mm in the UK and 32 to 36 mm for most EU countries and Australia.
How do I print passport photos at home or at a store?
Download the 4×6 print sheet and print it as a standard 4×6 inch (10 × 15 cm) photo at a pharmacy kiosk, supermarket photo service or online lab. Make sure the print is set to actual size, without borders, cropping or fit to page, then cut along the light grey lines.
Can I wear glasses in my passport photo?
For US passports glasses are not allowed unless you have a signed medical statement. Many other countries allow clear glasses without glare or tinted lenses, but some do not. Removing glasses is always the safest choice.
How does the background whitening work?
The tool looks at the color around the edges of your photo, then replaces the connected area of similar color with white or the color you choose, with a soft edge. It works best with a plain, evenly lit wall. Busy backgrounds or hair that is close in color to the wall may need a lower tolerance or a new photo.
Will my photo be accepted?
The tool sets the exact size, head position and resolution, but acceptance also depends on things it cannot check: sharp focus, even lighting without shadows, a neutral expression, eyes open and looking at the camera, and no hats or filters. Always check the current rules on your government's official website before applying.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. All editing, background whitening and print sheet creation happen in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
