How to use the Favicon Generator
Choose a source: Text for letters or initials, Emoji for an emoji icon, or Image to upload a logo (PNG, JPG, SVG, WebP).
Style it: pick the text or emoji, font and colors, the background (solid, gradient or transparent), the shape and the padding.
Check the previews: the browser tab shows how it looks at a tiny 16 px, and the phone preview shows the home-screen icon.
Fill in your site name and theme color for the web manifest (optional).
Download the ZIP, unzip it into your site's root folder and paste the HTML code into the <head> of your pages.

Tips for a favicon that reads well at 16 pixels
Simplify. A full logo with a tagline turns into a blur at 16 ร 16. Use the symbol only, or one or two letters.
Use strong contrast. Tabs can be light or dark, so a solid background behind your mark keeps it visible in both. Check the light and dark tab previews.
Fill the space. Keep padding small (about 5 to 15%). Browsers do not add padding of their own, and a tiny mark in a big empty square is hard to see.
Prefer bold shapes and fonts. Thin lines and serif details disappear at small sizes; extra-bold sans-serif letters stay crisp.
Start big. When uploading an image, use a square PNG or SVG of at least 512 ร 512 px so the large icons stay sharp.
How the ICO file is built
An ICO file is a small container: a 6-byte header, a 16-byte directory entry per image (width, height, bit depth, byte size and offset), followed by the images. This tool stores the sizes up to 64 px as 32-bit bitmaps with an alpha channel, which every version of Windows and every browser can read, and stores 128 and 256 px as compressed PNG data inside the ICO, as Windows Vista and later expect for large icons.
Frequently asked questions
What sizes does a favicon need?
Modern browsers use a 32 x 32 favicon in tabs (16 x 16 on low-resolution screens), iPhones and iPads use a 180 x 180 apple-touch-icon for home-screen shortcuts, and Android and installable web apps use 192 x 192 and 512 x 512 icons listed in the web manifest. A multi-size favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 px covers older browsers and Windows. This tool creates all of them.
Where do I put the favicon files?
Upload them to the root folder of your website, so that favicon.ico is reachable at https://yourdomain.com/favicon.ico, then add the HTML link tags to the head section of every page. If you keep icons in a subfolder, enter that path in the Files path box and the generated code will point there.
Is PNG or ICO better for a favicon?
Use both. All modern browsers accept PNG favicons through a link tag, and they are crisp and small. The favicon.ico file is still useful because some browsers, feed readers and tools request /favicon.ico directly without reading your HTML.
Why does my favicon not show up?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. After uploading, do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R), open the icon URL directly, or test in a private window. Also check that the paths in the link tags match where you uploaded the files.
Why does the Apple touch icon have a background?
iOS fills transparent areas of the apple-touch-icon with black, and it adds its own rounded corners. So the 180 x 180 icon is always saved with a solid background: your background color, or white when you chose transparent.
Can I use an emoji as my favicon?
Yes. Choose the Emoji source and pick or paste any emoji. The icon is drawn with your device's emoji font, so it will look like the emoji style of your operating system (Apple, Microsoft or Google).
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your image is read and resized in your browser with the Canvas API, and the ICO and ZIP files are built on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
