One cover per line, same layout and photo, each with its own colour from the palette row. Great for a series like workout, focus and chill playlists.
How to use the Playlist Cover Maker
- Choose a background: keep the generated style, or switch to Photo or 4-photo grid and pick your images.
- Pick an overlay such as Duotone or Bottom fade and set its strength and colours.
- Type the playlist title and an optional small label, then choose a position and font.
- Check the library preview under the cover to make sure the title reads at small size.
- Download PNG or JPG, then upload it in your music app's edit playlist screen. Use Make a matching set for a whole series.
Which overlay to use
| Overlay | What it does | Works best for |
|---|---|---|
| Bottom fade | Darkens the lower part with your second colour | Photos with a busy bottom edge and a title at the bottom |
| Duotone | Maps the image to two colours, dark to light | Making a series of different photos look like one set |
| Colour wash | Tints the whole image with colour 1 | Mood playlists: blue for chill, orange for summer, red for workout |
| Diagonal gradient | Semi-transparent gradient from colour 1 to colour 2 | Bright, modern covers with centred text |
| Glow & vignette | Soft coloured light in one corner and darker edges | Night, lo-fi and focus playlists |
Tips for playlist covers
- Short titles win. One to three words read at thumbnail size; the full description belongs in the playlist description field.
- Use colour as a code. Give each mood or activity its own colour pair so you can find playlists at a glance in your library grid.
- Mind the faces. When using a photo, drag it so faces sit above the text area rather than behind it.
- Four-photo grids look like the automatic covers apps generate, but with your own choice of images and a readable title on top.
- Keep a source copy. Download the 2000 or 3000 px version too, so you can reuse the artwork for social posts later.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a playlist cover be?
Playlist covers are square. Music apps scale them down to small thumbnails, so 1000 × 1000 px is plenty for most uses and keeps the file small. The tool also exports 640, 2000 and 3000 px if you need a different size.
How do I change a playlist cover in my music app?
Most apps let you edit a playlist you own and choose a new image from your device. Download the cover here, open your playlist, choose edit or the three-dot menu, pick the image option and select the downloaded file. Options vary by app and platform, and some apps only allow custom images on playlists you created.
What does the duotone overlay do?
Duotone turns the image into two colours: dark areas take the darker of your two colours and light areas take the lighter one. It gives a set of different photos a consistent look and makes white text easier to read.
Can I make several covers in the same style?
Yes. Open Make a matching set, type one title per line and click Create set ZIP. Each cover uses the current layout and photo, and can optionally get its own colour pair.
PNG or JPG?
PNG keeps text and flat colours perfectly sharp. JPG makes a smaller file, which is useful if an app limits the upload size or your connection is slow. The status line shows the file size after each download.
Can I use album art or celebrity photos?
For a private playlist it is your call, but images you do not own may be removed from public playlists. Your own photos and the generated backgrounds avoid that problem.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything is drawn on a canvas in your browser and photos never leave your device.
