How to use the Instagram Highlight Cover Maker

A consistent set looks best: use one icon colour and one line weight, and change only the icon. Muted neutral backgrounds such as beige, sage or blush suit most profile grids because they do not compete with your photos.

What size should an Instagram highlight cover be?
Upload a 1080 × 1920 px image (the story size) with the design in the centre, or a 1080 × 1080 px square. Instagram shows only a centred circle of the image in the highlight bubble, so this tool keeps the icon in the middle and shows a dashed circle guide.
How do I add a cover to a highlight?
In the Instagram app, open your profile, press and hold the highlight (or open it and tap More), choose Edit highlight, then Edit cover. Pick the downloaded image from your camera roll and position it in the circle. You do not need to post it as a story first.
Why do my highlight covers look blurry?
Usually because the image was very small or was a screenshot. The covers here export at 1080 px wide with sharp vector-drawn icons, which stays crisp after Instagram scales it down.
Can every highlight have a different colour?
Yes. Tick Own background colour for a single cover, or Rotate colours across covers to give the whole set evenly spaced hues based on your main colour.
How long can a highlight name be?
Keep names short; around 15 characters or fewer fit under the circle without being cut off on most phones. The name field here is limited to 15 characters for that reason. You type the real name in Instagram itself.
Are the icons free to use?
Yes. The icons are simple line drawings made for this tool and are drawn directly onto your image, so you can use the covers on any account, personal or business.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Covers are drawn with the Canvas API in your browser. Your set is saved only in this browser's local storage so it is still here next time.
