How big does sign text need to be?
A widely used rule of thumb for signs is about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of viewing distance for the best readability (some sign makers use up to 1 inch per 25 to 30 feet as the maximum readable distance). The tool scales the big text to fill the page, so short messages print with the tallest letters.

How do I print the sign at the right size?
Download the PDF and print it with the scale set to 100% or Actual size. Choose the same paper size you selected in the tool (US Letter or A4) so nothing is cropped. Most printers leave a small unprinted margin, which is why the design keeps a white edge.
Which style uses the least ink?
Ink saver prints only a thin black border, black icon and black text on white paper. Thick border uses a little colour; Full colour uses the most ink and looks best on a colour laser printer.
Is a printed restroom sign ADA compliant?
No. Under the 2010 ADA Standards, permanent room identification signs such as restroom signs need raised characters, Grade 2 Braille, non-glare finish and specific mounting heights. A paper sign is fine as a temporary or extra directional sign, but a permanent restroom sign should be a proper tactile sign.
Can I make a wet floor or out of order sign?
Yes. Choose the Wet floor or Out of order template; both use caution yellow with a warning triangle or wrench icon. A paper sign is a courtesy notice; for spills, a free-standing caution sign is still the safer choice.
How do I fit two signs on one page?
Tick Two half-size signs per sheet. The sign is drawn twice with a dashed cut line between the copies. In portrait the halves are stacked; in landscape they sit side by side.
Can I laminate the sign?
Yes. Print on regular or slightly heavier paper, let the ink dry fully and laminate it. Full colour and band styles keep their colours well under a laminate pouch.
