About the Greek keyboard
The Greek alphabet has 24 letters, each with a capital and small form; σ is written ς at the end of a word. Modern Greek uses a single accent mark, the tonos, on the stressed vowel of most words with two or more syllables, and a diaeresis to show that two vowels are pronounced separately.
- Standard Greek: Standard Greek layout as on Windows and macOS. The ; key is the accent (tonos) dead key: press it, then a vowel, for ά έ ή ί ό ύ ώ. Shift+; adds a diaeresis (ϊ ϋ) and W types final ς.
- Greeklish typing: Type Greeklish and get Greek: kalhme'ra → καλημέρα. Add an apostrophe after a vowel for an accent (a' → ά). Final σ turns into ς automatically.

- ου is the Greek “oo” sound; in Greeklish type ou.
- Greek quotation marks are « » (quick buttons).
Frequently asked questions
How do I type Greek accents (τόνος)?
Press the ; key (the accent dead key) and then the vowel: ; then a gives ά, ; then o gives ό. For a diaeresis press Shift+; then ι or υ (ϊ, ϋ), and Shift+W then ι or υ for ΐ, ΰ. In Greeklish typing put an apostrophe after the vowel: a' → ά.
How do I type the final sigma ς?
On the Greek layout ς is on the W key. In Greeklish typing you don't need to: σ at the end of a word becomes ς automatically.
How do I type a Greek question mark?
Greek uses the semicolon-like ; as its question mark. On the Greek layout it is the Q key; type q in Greeklish mode.
Can I use it for math and science symbols?
Yes. Use the standard layout and copy letters like α, β, γ, Δ, θ, λ, μ, π, Σ, σ, φ, Ω. For many symbols at once, see our special characters tool.
Does it support ancient (polytonic) Greek?
This keyboard types modern monotonic Greek. Polytonic breathing marks and circumflexes are not included.
