How to use the Birthday Card Maker
- Choose a size and a template: folded A5 for A4 paper or folded half-letter for US Letter paper, then click a template.
- Edit each panel: switch between Front, Inside left, Inside right and Back. Click a text to change it, or drag, resize and rotate any element.
- Add photos and stickers: use Add photo for your own pictures and pick stickers from the sticker panel. Change the background colors and pattern.
- Download the PDF: page 1 is the outside of the card (back and front), page 2 the inside.
- Print and fold: print double-sided with Flip on short edge at 100% scale, on card stock if you can, then fold the sheet in half.
How the folded card is laid out
A folded card is printed on both sides of one sheet in landscape orientation and folded down the middle. The PDF places the panels so that everything ends up in the right spot after folding:
| PDF page | Left half | Right half |
|---|---|---|
| Page 1 (outside) | Back of the card | Front of the card |
| Page 2 (inside) | Inside left | Inside right (main message) |
| Card size | Paper | Folded size | Envelope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Folded A5 | A4 (210 × 297 mm) | 148 × 210 mm | C5 (162 × 229 mm) |
| Folded half-letter | US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) | 5.5 × 8.5 in | A9 (5¾ × 8¾ in) |
Printing tips for a professional result
- Duplex setting: choose two-sided printing with Flip on short edge. If the inside comes out upside down, tick Rotate inside page 180° and print again, or switch to flip on long edge.
- No duplex? Print page 1 only, put the printed sheet back into the tray turned over (check your printer's paper orientation icon), then print page 2.
- Scale: always print at 100% or Actual size. Fit to page shrinks the card and moves the fold off-center.
- Paper: matte card stock around 200 to 250 g/m² feels like a store-bought card. Photo paper works for the outside but cracks when folded.
- Folding: line up the small fold marks at the top and bottom edges, score along a ruler with a blunt tool, then fold.

Frequently asked questions
How do I print a folded birthday card at home?
Download the PDF and print it double-sided at 100% (actual size). Choose Flip on short edge, because the card is printed in landscape. Page 1 holds the back and the front, page 2 the inside. Fold the sheet in half along the middle so the front is on the outside. If your printer cannot print on both sides, print page 1, put the sheet back in the tray turned over, and print page 2.
What size is the finished card?
A folded A5 card is 148 x 210 mm (about 5.8 x 8.3 in), made from one A4 sheet. A folded half-letter card is 5.5 x 8.5 in, made from one US Letter sheet, and fits an A9 envelope. A folded A5 card fits a C5 envelope.
The inside of my card is upside down. What went wrong?
The printer flipped the paper on the long edge instead of the short edge. Either change the duplex setting to Flip on short edge, or tick Rotate inside page 180 degrees before downloading the PDF and print again.
What paper should I use?
Card stock of about 200 to 250 g/m2 (65 to 90 lb cover) gives a sturdy card that stands up. Make sure your printer accepts that thickness, and score the fold line with a ruler and a blunt knife or an empty pen for a crisp fold.
Why is there a white border when I print?
Most home printers cannot print to the very edge of the paper and leave a margin of 3 to 6 mm. Keep text and faces inside the dashed safe area shown in the editor. If you want a full-bleed look, choose a light background color so the border is less visible, or trim the card after folding.
Can I add my own photo?
Yes. Click Add photo or select the photo frame in the Photo template and choose Replace photo. Pictures are processed in your browser and are never uploaded.
