Type your words and see them as a glowing neon sign on a brick wall, a dark wall or a transparent background. Pick the tube colour, font and glow, switch on a flicker or a broken letter, then download a PNG or a looping animated GIF.

How to use the Neon Text Generator
Type your text. Press Enter for a second or third line.
Choose a font and tube colour. Click a colour swatch or use the custom colour picker.
Pick a background such as the brick wall, and add a frame if you want a finished sign look.
Set the animation: steady glow, pulse, flicker, or a broken letter that sputters on and off.
Download PNG for a still image, or Create GIF for a looping animated neon sign.
How real neon colours are made
A neon sign is a glass tube filled with a low-pressure gas. A high voltage makes the gas glow, and the colour depends on the gas and on the coating inside the tube. Use the table to pick a colour that matches a real sign, or to describe the colour you want to a sign maker.
Colour
How it is produced
Good for
Red-orange
Pure neon gas in clear glass, the original “neon” colour
Classic “OPEN” and diner signs
Blue
Argon with a little mercury in clear glass
Bars, night-time and tech themes
Pink, purple, green, warm white
Argon-mercury light in tubes coated with phosphors
Wedding signs, bedrooms, cafés
Yellow
Neon in yellow-tinted glass or a phosphor coating
Retro and road-side styles
Most modern “neon” signs are LED neon flex: a strip of LEDs inside a diffusing silicone tube. It looks very similar, uses less power, and comes in any colour, which is why a mock-up with any colour is still realistic.
Tips for a convincing neon sign
Keep it short. One to four words read best. Real signs are priced by tube length, so short wording is also cheaper to build.
Prefer even-stroke fonts. A neon tube has the same thickness everywhere, so monoline fonts such as Tilt Neon, Neonderthaw or Comfortaa, or the Outline tubes style, look the most authentic.
Use a dark wall. Glow is only visible against darkness. The brick wall adds a warm light spill that makes the mock-up feel like a photo.
Two colours, not five. A text colour plus a contrasting frame (pink with ice blue, or orange with purple) is the classic combination.
Animated GIFs: the broken-letter effect is small and eye-catching for websites and chat, because only one letter changes between frames.
Frequently asked questions
How is the neon glow made?
Each letter is drawn several times with blurred shadows of decreasing size in the tube colour, which builds the soft outer halo and tighter inner glow. A last pass draws a pale, almost white core, because a real lit neon tube looks whiter in the centre than at its edges. A faint coloured light spill is added to the wall behind the text.
Can I get a transparent neon PNG?
Yes. Choose Transparent as the background and download a PNG. The glow keeps its soft alpha edges, so you can place the sign on any photo or video. GIF does not support soft transparency, so animated GIFs always use a dark background.
Why is my GIF bigger than the PNG?
A GIF stores every frame of the loop and is limited to 256 colours, while glows contain smooth colour gradients. Use the smaller GIF width, the steady or broken-letter animation (identical frames are merged) or a plain background to keep the file small.
Which fonts look most like real neon?
Real neon is made from glass tubes of even thickness, so fonts with a uniform stroke look the most convincing: Tilt Neon, Neonderthaw, Sacramento and Comfortaa, or any font with the Outline tubes style. Monoton already has the parallel tube lines of vintage signs built in.
Can I use the image for a real neon sign order?
Yes, many people use a mock-up like this to show a sign maker the wording, font and colour they want. Sign makers redraw the design as bendable tube or LED flex paths, so treat the preview as a visual guide rather than a production file.
Are my text and images uploaded?
No. The neon sign is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the PNG and GIF files are created on your device. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts; if they cannot load, a similar system font is used.
