Sketch a house, apartment or single room on a scaled grid. Drag out rooms and walls, click doors and windows onto them, drop in true-size furniture and read every dimension and room area as you work. Export a clean PNG, SVG or PDF when you're done.

How to use the Floor Plan Maker
Start from the sample apartment or press Start blank plan, and choose feet or meters.
Draw rooms: pick the Room tool and drag on the grid. Type exact width and length in the Selected panel to fine-tune.
Add doors and windows: pick Door or Window and click on a wall or room edge; they snap into place and can be flipped or resized.
Furnish: click or drag furniture from the palette, then move it, rotate it with R and resize it if your piece is a different size.
Check the numbers in Rooms & areas, add a title and download a PNG, SVG or PDF.
Common room and clearance sizes
Use these typical sizes as a starting point when sketching a layout. Always measure your actual rooms with a tape measure, going wall to wall at floor level, and note where doors, windows, radiators and outlets sit.
Room
Comfortable size (US)
Approx. area
Primary bedroom (queen or king bed)
12 × 14 ft to 14 × 16 ft
168–224 sq ft
Secondary bedroom
10 × 10 ft to 10 × 12 ft
100–120 sq ft
Living room
12 × 18 ft to 16 × 20 ft
216–320 sq ft
Full bathroom (tub, toilet, sink)
5 × 8 ft
40 sq ft
Galley kitchen
8 × 10 ft to 8 × 12 ft
80–96 sq ft
One-car garage
12 × 22 ft

Clearance
Common guideline
Walkway around a bed
24–36 in
Main walkway through a room
36 in
Between kitchen counters (work aisle)
42–48 in
Behind a dining chair to a wall
36 in (44 in to walk past)
Sofa to coffee table
14–18 in
In front of a toilet
21 in minimum, 30 in recommended
Standard interior door width
30–36 in (32 in is common)
Clearances are general design guidelines (for example from kitchen and bath planning practice), not building code; check local code for egress windows, stairs and accessibility requirements.
Tips for a useful floor plan
Measure in one direction first. Record the total length of a wall, then the positions of doors and windows from the same corner, so the pieces add up.
Draw rooms that touch, not overlap. Shared edges act as the wall between them, and the area total stays correct.
Place doors before furniture. The swing arc shows the space a door needs to open, which is the most common thing forgotten in a layout.
Try furniture before you buy. Resize a piece to the exact catalog dimensions and see whether the walkway around it stays at least 30–36 in.
Yes. One grid unit equals a real distance (half a foot in feet mode, 10 cm in metric mode), and every room, wall and furniture piece is stored in real dimensions. Exports keep the same proportions, so you can measure from them or print them for a contractor or moving day.
How is the room area calculated?
Each rectangular room's area is width × length, shown in square feet or square meters (1 sq ft = 0.0929 m²). The total adds every room together. Dimensions are measured to the wall center lines, so the usable interior floor area is slightly smaller once wall thickness is subtracted.
Can I enter exact measurements?
Yes. Select a room, wall or furniture item and type its size in the Selected panel. In feet mode you can type 12' 6", 12 6, 12.5 or 150"; in meters mode type a decimal such as 3.8.
How big are the furniture symbols?
They use common real-world sizes: a queen bed is 60 × 80 in, a king 76 × 80 in, a sofa about 7 × 3 ft, a fridge about 36 × 30 in and a standard bathtub 60 × 30 in. You can resize any piece to match what you own.
Which export format should I use?
PNG is best for sharing in messages or documents. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size and opens in design tools. PDF fits the plan on a single US Letter page for printing. The PDF uses a small library loaded on demand; if it can't load, PNG and SVG still work.
Is my floor plan saved or uploaded?
The plan is saved only in your browser's local storage on this device, so it is there when you come back. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing site data removes it, so download an SVG if you want a permanent copy.
Can I draw L-shaped or open-plan rooms?
Draw them as two touching rectangular rooms (for an L-shape) or use free walls inside one large room to mark partitions. Rooms that overlap are counted twice in the total, so make pieces touch rather than overlap.
