How to use the Gift Certificate Maker
Pick a design and color that matches your brand, then add your business name, contact line and logo.
Set the value: a money amount with currency, or switch to Product or service and describe what the certificate is good for.
Fill in To, From and a message, or leave the names empty to print blank lines you can write on at the counter.
Choose how many to make and how they are numbered (sequential or random codes), plus the issue and expiry dates and the small print.
Download the PDF to print 1-3 per page and cut along the dashed lines, save a single PNG to email, and keep the code list CSV for your records.
What to include on a gift certificate
A good gift certificate looks like part of your brand and answers the questions a customer and your staff will have when it is redeemed. This maker covers each item below:
Element
Why it matters
Tip
Business name and logo
Makes the certificate recognizable and harder to fake
Use a PNG logo with a transparent background
Value
States exactly what it is worth
Use a service ("One haircut") when prices may change
Unique code
Tracks sales and prevents double redemption
Log each code in the CSV and mark it when used
Issue and expiry date
Sets when it can be used
Follow local law; many US rules require at least 5 years
To / From and message
Makes it a personal gift
Leave blank to fill in by hand at the time of sale
Signature
Shows the certificate was issued by staff
Sign or stamp each one when you sell it
Terms
Avoids disputes about cash value, partial use or lost certificates
Keep it to one or two short sentences
Selling and redeeming gift certificates
Print a batch with sequential numbers and keep the code list CSV (open it in Excel or Google Sheets).
When you sell one, fill in the recipient, sign it, and note the sale date and buyer next to its code.
When it is redeemed, find the code in your list, check it has not been used and write the redemption date in the redeemed column.
For partial use of a money certificate, write the remaining balance on the back and initial it, or issue a new certificate for the balance.
Gift certificate rules (minimum validity, fees, unclaimed balances) vary by state and country. This tool does not give legal advice; check the consumer rules where you do business.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make printable gift certificates for my business?
Enter your business details and the certificate value, choose how many you need, then click Download PDF to print. Each certificate gets its own code, and the PDF fits 3 per page on US Letter or A4 (or 1 per page in landscape). Print on card stock and cut along the dashed lines.
What size is each gift certificate?
Certificates have a 20:9 shape. With 3 per page on US Letter each one is about 7.5 x 3.4 inches (19 x 8.6 cm), similar to a classic check-size gift certificate that fits a standard #10 envelope when folded once or a 4 x 9.5 inch envelope flat. With 1 per page they print about 10 inches wide in landscape.
Why should every gift certificate have a unique code?
A unique number lets you record each sale, check whether a certificate was already redeemed, and spot photocopies. Use sequential numbers for an easy paper log, or random codes that are harder to guess. Download the code list CSV and mark each certificate as redeemed when it is used.
Should a gift certificate have an expiry date?
It depends on where you sell it. In the United States, the federal CARD Act generally requires gift certificates and gift cards to be valid for at least five years from the date funds were loaded, and some states ban expiry dates altogether. Other countries have their own rules. Check your local consumer law; you can tick No expiry date to leave it off.
Can I make a voucher for a service instead of an amount?
Yes. Change Value to Product or service and type something like "One 60-minute massage" or "Dinner for two". The design shows it in place of the money amount, labeled Good for.
What paper should I print gift certificates on?
Use a heavier matte or satin card stock (around 65-110 lb cover, 176-300 gsm) for a premium feel. Set the printer to actual size or 100% scale so the cut lines stay accurate, and test one page on plain paper first.
Is my logo uploaded anywhere?
No. The certificates are drawn in your browser and the PDF and PNG files are created on your own device, so your logo and customer names never leave your computer.
