How to use the RPG Character Sheet Maker
Fill in the basics: name, class, level, ancestry and background. Press Apply class defaults to set saving throws, the hit die and spellcasting.
Set ability scores by typing them, rolling 4d6 or using the standard array, then mark your skill proficiencies.
Add combat details: armor class, hit points and your weapons. The to-hit and damage for each attack appear instantly.
List spells and gear on the Spells and Inventory tabs, and write features and backstory notes.
Download the PDF or print the sheet, and press Save JSON to keep an editable copy of your character.
Ability scores and modifiers
Every roll on the sheet starts with an ability modifier: modifier = floor((score − 10) ÷ 2). Saving throws and skills add your proficiency bonus when you are proficient, and Expertise doubles it. Initiative uses the Dexterity modifier, and passive Perception is 10 + your Perception bonus.

Generating ability scores
Standard array: assign 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 and 8 to the six abilities. The tool puts the highest scores in the abilities your class relies on most, and you can swap them freely.
Point buy: every ability starts at 8 and you have 27 points. Scores cost 9 = 1, 10 = 2, 11 = 3, 12 = 4, 13 = 5, 14 = 7 and 15 = 9 points. The counter on the Abilities tab tells you how many points your current scores use (before ancestry or background bonuses).
Rolling: roll four six-sided dice for each ability and add the highest three. The average result is about 12.2, so rolled characters can end up stronger or weaker than the array. Agree with your group which method to use.
Tip: print a blank sheet (Start blank sheet, then Print sheet) if your table prefers pencil and paper, and keep the JSON file so you can level up the digital version between sessions.
Frequently asked questions
How is an ability modifier calculated?
Subtract 10 from the ability score, divide by 2 and round down. A score of 10 or 11 gives +0, 14 or 15 gives +2, 8 or 9 gives -1 and 20 gives +5. The sheet updates every modifier as soon as you change a score.
What is the proficiency bonus at each level?
It is +2 at levels 1-4, +3 at 5-8, +4 at 9-12, +5 at 13-16 and +6 at 17-20. It is added to saving throws and skills you are proficient in, to attacks with proficient weapons and to your spell save DC and spell attack bonus. Expertise adds it twice.
How do I work out spell save DC and spell attack bonus?
Spell save DC = 8 + proficiency bonus + your spellcasting ability modifier. Spell attack bonus = proficiency bonus + spellcasting ability modifier. For example a level 3 cleric with Wisdom 16 has DC 8 + 2 + 3 = 13 and +5 to hit with spell attacks.
What is passive Perception?
Passive Perception is 10 plus your Perception skill bonus (Wisdom modifier, plus proficiency if you are proficient). The game master compares it against hidden threats when you are not actively searching. The sheet also shows passive Insight and Investigation.
Can I use this sheet for any fantasy tabletop RPG?
It follows the widely used 5th-edition style rules: six abilities, 18 skills, proficiency bonus and spell slots. Choose Custom class for homebrew or other classes, and use the free-text boxes for features from any system. You can also print a blank sheet to fill in by hand.
How do I save my character and edit it later?
The sheet is saved automatically in this browser. To move it to another device or keep a backup, press Save JSON and later press Load JSON and pick that file. Everything stays on your device and is never uploaded.
How is carrying capacity calculated?
Carrying capacity is your Strength score times 15 in pounds, and you can push, drag or lift twice that. The inventory tab adds up item weights plus coins (50 coins weigh 1 lb) and warns you if you go over, including the optional encumbrance thresholds of Strength times 5 and times 10.
