How the cat due date is calculated
Cats are induced ovulators: mating triggers the release of eggs about 24–36 hours later, so the mating date is a good starting point. The calculator adds:
- Due date = mating date + 63 days
- Usual due window = mating date + 63 to 65 days
- Normal range = mating date + 58 to 70 days
Example: mating on June 10 gives a due date of August 12, a usual window of August 12–14 and a normal range of August 7–19.

Frequently asked questions
How long are cats pregnant?
Cat pregnancy (gestation) usually lasts about 63–65 days, roughly nine weeks, counted from mating. Births between about day 58 and day 70 are generally considered normal.
How do I calculate my cat's due date?
Add 63 days to the mating date. For example, a cat that mated on March 1 is due around May 3, with most births between May 3 and May 5.
When can you tell a cat is pregnant?
The first visible sign is usually “pinking up”: the nipples become pink and enlarged around 15–21 days after mating. A vet can confirm pregnancy by ultrasound from about day 16 or by gentle palpation around days 17–25.
How can I find out how many kittens she will have?
An X-ray from about day 42–45, when the kittens' skeletons have hardened, is the most reliable way to count them. Ultrasound confirms pregnancy earlier but is less accurate for counting. An average litter is about four kittens.
What are signs that labor is near?
In the last day or two a queen often becomes restless, looks for a nest, stops eating, grooms her belly and may pant or purr loudly. A small drop in body temperature can occur about 12–24 hours before labor.
When should I call the vet?
Call your vet if there are no kittens by about day 70, if she strains hard for 30–60 minutes without a kitten, if more than 2–3 hours pass between kittens with more expected, or if there is a foul, green or heavy bloody discharge.
What should a pregnant cat eat?
Most vets advise switching gradually to a high-quality kitten (growth) food from around week 4–5 and feeding small meals often, as her energy needs rise steadily through pregnancy and nursing.
