IVF due date formula
| Date you know | Due date | Weeks pregnant on that day |
|---|---|---|
| Egg retrieval / fertilization | + 266 days | 2w 0d |
| Day 3 embryo transfer | + 263 days | 2w 3d |
| Day 5 blastocyst transfer | + 261 days | 2w 5d |
| Day 6 blastocyst transfer | + 260 days | 2w 6d |
Example: a day 5 transfer on March 10, 2026 gives a due date 261 days later, on November 26, 2026. The equivalent LMP is 280 days before that, February 19, 2026.

Frequently asked questions
How is an IVF due date calculated?
A pregnancy lasts about 266 days from fertilization (280 days from the last period). With IVF the fertilization date is known exactly, so the due date is the transfer date plus 266 days minus the embryo's age: plus 263 days for a day 3 embryo, 261 days for a day 5 and 260 days for a day 6.
Is the due date different for a frozen embryo transfer?
No. What matters is the embryo's age when it is transferred, not whether it was frozen. A day 5 frozen blastocyst transferred on a given date gives the same due date as a fresh day 5 transfer on that date.
How many weeks pregnant am I at transfer?
IVF pregnancies are dated as if fertilization happened on day 14 of a cycle. A day 5 embryo transfer counts as 2 weeks 5 days pregnant on the transfer day, a day 3 transfer as 2 weeks 3 days.
When can I take a pregnancy test after a transfer?
Clinics usually schedule a blood (beta hCG) test about 9 to 14 days after the transfer depending on the embryo age and protocol. Testing too early can give a false negative. Follow your clinic's timing.
Will my doctor's due date be the same?
Usually yes, because IVF dating is precise. Some providers adjust slightly based on early ultrasound or their own convention. Only about 4% of babies are born on the exact due date, and most arrive within two weeks either side.
What is the equivalent LMP date?
It is the date your last menstrual period would have started in a natural cycle with the same due date: 280 days before the due date, or 2 weeks before fertilization. It lets IVF pregnancies use standard week counting.
