SGPA to CGPA Calculator
Turn your semester grade point averages (SGPA) into a cumulative CGPA, weighted by credits, and convert it to a percentage with the formula your university uses. Leave the credits out for a simple average.
One semester per line. Leave out the credits on every line to use a simple average.
Percentage = CGPA × this number
How to use the SGPA to CGPA Calculator
- Enter one semester per line: SGPA, then credits (e.g. 8.2, 22).
- Choose the grading scale (10-point for most Indian universities).
- Pick the percentage formula your university or employer uses.
- Read your CGPA and percentage, and see how it changed each semester.
SGPA to CGPA formula
- Credit points for a semester = SGPA × total credits of that semester
- CGPA = Σ credit points ÷ Σ credits
- Without credits: CGPA = (SGPA₁ + SGPA₂ + … + SGPAₙ) ÷ n
CGPA to percentage formulas
| Formula | Used by (examples) | 7.0 CGPA | 8.0 CGPA | 9.0 CGPA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CGPA × 9.5 | CBSE and many universities | 66.5% | 76% | 85.5% |
| CGPA × 10 | Some universities and autonomous colleges | 70% | 80% | 90% |
| (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | VTU | 62.5% | 72.5% | 82.5% |
Always check the conversion rule printed on your marksheet or in your university's regulations: employers and admissions offices usually ask for that official figure.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA?
Multiply each semester's SGPA by its credits, add those credit points and divide by the total credits. For 8.2 (22 credits), 7.9 (24), 8.6 (23) and 8.1 (22): (180.4 + 189.6 + 197.8 + 178.2) ÷ 91 = 746 ÷ 91 = 8.20 CGPA.
Can I just average my SGPAs?
Only if every semester has the same number of credits. Otherwise the simple average gives too much weight to light semesters. Most universities compute CGPA by credits, so enter the credits if you know them.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
It depends on the institution. CBSE and many universities use percentage = CGPA × 9.5. VTU uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Some universities simply multiply by 10. Your marksheet or the university's regulations state the official formula.
What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
SGPA (semester grade point average) is your average for one semester. CGPA (cumulative grade point average) combines all semesters completed so far, weighted by credits.
What is 8.2 CGPA in percentage?
With the ×9.5 formula, 8.2 CGPA is 77.9%. With ×10 it is 82%, and with VTU's (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 it is 74.5%.
Where do I find the credits for each semester?
The total credits are printed on each semester's grade card or marksheet, usually next to the SGPA. They are the sum of the credits of all courses you took that semester.
